We are born to go through a series of episodes and then to die.

We are born to go through a series of episodes and then to die. That’s the “circle of life,” but why?

I once read Simon Sinek’s book, “Start with Why,” and absolutely loved it! It’s a book worth reading again throughout the ages. But I ask myself, “How many times do we go through life asking the ‘why’?” Is it just once, when we figure it out and suddenly have one ginormous grand life epiphany? Or, throughout the different aging stages, do we find ourselves returning to that question?

I guess in life, there’s really no right or wrong answer. There’s just life. Either we choose to live it, or we don’t. And how we choose to live it is what counts. The operative words are “how” and “choose.” Do life’s episodes change our “why,” “how,” and “choose,” or do we choose to reframe our “hows” and “whys” because of life’s episodes?

In restaurant leadership for over 20 years, I knew my “why” and “how,” and I chose how I wanted to execute my “why.” But now, three years into recovery, cancer survivorship has unraveled everything… … …

… … …and there goes my brain, stopping mid-thought. To be continued…
